The Benefits of the Hybrid Upgrade to HVAC Service Companies

 

The benefits of the hybrid upgrade are most obvious to the end use customer and the environment.

Since those are spelled out in detail elsewhere ( hybridupgrade.wordpress.com ), I will spell out here specifically what the benefits are to the service providers.

1) The potential customer pool (those who have good functioning air conditioners that are not heat pumps) is larger than your normal target ( those who have a service need)

2) Our direct marketing strategy and add campaign will bring customers to you for you to perform the upgrade.

3) You can then present the product to your existing customers who don’t have a heat pump and to a new target audience by joining us in the ad campaign.

You will have a large percentage of customer retention for the life of the equipment and be first, and sometimes only, choice when it comes time for equipment replacement. You will have proven to the service area that you are the best by doing what your competition cannot, or is not willing to do.

You will have branded yourself with the only entity that is being proactive in the fight to reduce global warming with (quite literally) global cooling.

In the residential market, it is often quite difficult to convert a gas heat user to a heat pump because of the electrical requirements for supplemental heat. Don’t ignore that gas line when it is right in front of your eyes. Factory hybrids are expensive but that day will come when the customer will gladly buy a new factory hybrid with the savings of ten or more years with the hybrid upgrade. Many more sells could piggy-back in each development because, as you know, in subdivisions where gas is available, heat pumps are rare.

If you do light commercial, you will also benefit from the high demand for green profiles in corporate imaging and be in line for tax exemptions or credits for environmentally favorable products. When gas prices go up again, you will be in a unique position to help your customers keep warm in a cost effective manner. Until then, you can help them by giving them the power of choice. If electric is up, turn the toggle switch to gas, if gas is down, adjust the outside thermostat up a few degrees. No need for humidifiers or concern for aging heat exchangers because the gas only runs one tenth of the time that it did.

All renewable energy finds its end use as electric so you are putting yourself in the position of who to turn to when renewable options become attractive or to those customers who are already driving hybrid cars and have solar panels and feel guilty about heating with gas.

There are a great number of benefits to consider when you think about UPGRADING. The traditional way for a gas heat customer to gain the benefits of a heat pump was to change out the equipment. That’s fine if the equipment is old and worn out and is starting to have expensive repairs. Even then, it is often necessary to modernize the homes entire electrical system to provide for the additional circuit needed for the electric back-up heat neede by traditional heat pumps. It is not necessary to add another circuit for a Hybrid heat pump.

When we Upgrade existing equipment we avoid putting good running equipment in a recycle center or worse yet a landfill. The smallest book in the world is the sales brochure for used air conditioners. (It recently replaced the Japanese Classic car catalog LOL). In other words, perfectly good air conditioners are being dumped everyday because they are inefficient or the service company needed to make a sale.

Besides saving you hundreds of dollars on your heating bil, it is more environmentally friendly to not burn anything that you can keep from burning. The poisonous gases produced from burning fossil fuels is a list a mile long. If the unit is not exhausting properly, it can kill you. No one has ever been killed by a heat pump.

Another consideration is that equipment produced 10 years ago and has been in the field running is not necessarily worn out and in need of replacement. It may well be that it is built to a higher standard than equipment being produced today. It has a ten years of operation field test and is free of refrigerant leaks. Before we upgrade a system, we always clean it and service it and bring it up to optimal operating conditions.
